“Hardcore academic becomes jazz fanatic by visiting the Village Vanguard ONCE”

Born in Seoul and raised in Toronto since two-years-old. I am still based in Toronto, but I spend half the year in NYC, working mostly with NYC musicians.

I studied psychology & human evolutionary science and was deep into research. In 2018, I was being a tourist in NYC and did what just any other tourist does in NYC…go to the Village Vanguard. This was the first time I’ve heard jazz in my life. I was blown away by what I was seeing on stage. Who did I see? Russell Malone. Rest in Peace.

I became obsessed with jazz ever since. In 2022, when it was time for me to apply for a PHD program in evolutionary anthropology, I decided to ditch the academia and start my own artist management business. When I was searching for a name for my company, legendary percussionist Mino Cinelu came up with ‘Grace Note Agency’.

Currently I am managing Simon Moullier (vibraphone), Measha Brueggergosman-Lee (soprano), and supporting booking, grant writing, promotion etc. with other artists.
